A Place to Start for an Unplanned Pregnancy

Are you facing an unplanned pregnancy and don’t know where to begin? Adoption Connection offers a welcoming place to start.

At Adoption Connection, we can help you find the resources and answers you need.
  1. Be sure: Are you positive you are pregnant? If not, see a doctor or women’s clinic to find out.
  2. Talk to someone you trust: Parent/s, school nurse, pastor, friend — Don’t face your fears alone.
  3. Explore your options: A qualified adoption professional can explain your choices and answer your questions without making judgments or pressuring you.
  4. Take your time: Think through all your options. A “quick fix” may not be a wise choice.
  5. Imagine: What will your life be like in 5-10-15 years? Your decision now will affect the future for you and your child.
Friends and family will likely want to tell you what they think you should do. Some may even try to make you feel guilty for considering all of your options. But they are not going to walk in your shoes! You alone must decide based on what you believe is best for you and for your child: right now, TODAY — not 5 years from now! Involve yourself with those who will support you non-judgmentally before you make any permanent decisions!

Adoption of Older Children as an Option

If you are already a parent and feel overwhelmed, adoption may be a loving option for you as well!

Contrary to popular belief, not all prospective adoptive parents want to adopt babies! Many families are willing and excited to adopt a child of any age or even sibling groups. While the processes described on this website typically refer to infant adoptions, most also apply to the adoption of an older child. Birth parents can choose families, decide on levels of openness and make other choices in their adoption plan for an older child. Parental rights of birth parents must be terminated as with infant placements. Prospective adoptive parents need to complete a home study, attend training, and be thoroughly screened by an Adoption Connection professional.

Before placing an older child, we take time to transition the child slowly and carefully into any new family. We work closely with both birth and adoptive families to ensure that this is done with utmost concern for the best interests of the child. We watch closely over the placement (often more than the normal 6-month waiting period) before allowing the final adoption to occur.

If you are considering making an adoption plan for an older child, we encourage you to read through all the information on this website to learn what adoption really involves. We know that you may face even more negative comments and less support than if your child was yet unborn. As we’ve said above, others haven’t walked in your shoes — only you can decide what is best for you and your child.
